    Question - Character pictures

    Hey all,

I absolutely love this program.  I spent easily 3 hours the first night I installed it setting up issues, titles, and the works.  However, I've got a small issue.

The character pictures are not appearing anywhere.  Is there somewhere in particular I should be looking??  I'm sure the image locations are correct as  I'm copying them from the image properties of the websites I'm using.

    Any suggestions.

    Welcome, TearJohnDown!

Which skin are you using? Some skins don't show character images.

The default skin, however, should show the character's image if you have specified it correctly. What sort of URLs are you spefcifying for the image? I can try it here and see if it works.

You might like to try one of the excellent skins contributed by some of our users over in the skins forum. They're way better than the default one. Wink [;)]

    Hey mabster...

I never selected a skin, so I suppose I'm using the default.

I'm using 100x100 headshots from the uncannyxmen.net character database, if that helps.

Can you give me an example?

For example, do they look like "http://uncannyxmen.net/images/blah.jpg"?

Hey, I'm having an identical problem as the original poster, even used the exact same site as well. The character images just don't show, no matter the source I use. I'm extremely lost, they worked before any possible solutions?

    Hey kaine!

Just to reiterate an earlier comment: The default skin that comes with Comicster doesn't actually show images for characters.

Have you tried downloading one of the many excellent user-created skins from our skins forum? I know a few of those show the character's image.

I guess I really should modify that default skin to show the character pictures since it seems to be a recurring question! Smile

Just a thought but maybe the default skin should have, i don't know, all the options/abilities a skin has even if they are remmed out in the code.

That way it could be used as a really nice template with all the options available so someone doesn't have to guess if the skin can do that.

Commenting out bits in the default skin won't really help the average skin-creator, since it's so damned hard to find the files (what with Comicster being installed in a hidden folder under C:\Documents and Settings).

That said: I will get the character image appearing in the default skin for the next version. If anyone finds other features that don't appear in the default skin (and would make sense to) let me know in this thread.

The reason it might not be working is the fact if your going to my Character Glossary is that the images are labeled with a nuthin.gif when you try and copy the image. The reason is bandwidth usage and it sucking it from UXN.

Perhaps I need to introduce local thumbnails for character images, too. The original idea of thumbnails on issues was to solve the problem of sucking bandwidth from third parties.
