    Universe Inconsistansies

    Hey guys,

I noticed in some of my recent issue download syncs, "regular" universe characters have 3 different distinctions. I for one never added a "universe" to standard regular marvel characters, only "ultimate" or "mc2" for alternates. So nothing for regular universes - that's one instance. Some of my recent comic downloads now have "616" for regular marvel characters - that's two. Now I've noticed other issues with "Marvel 616" - and that's three. I don't care what we do as long as we all do it the same. We need to come up with universe guidelines or a pre-determined pulldown menu with all universes ready to choose from. What do you guys think?

I know where you're coming from, Ven, but it's hard for me to preach consistency when I'm not consistent myself. :)

I've been using "Marvel 616" as the character's universe for a few mainstream Marvel characters, primarily where there might be some confusion because of a character with the same name from either a different reality or a different publisher.

Having said that, I've also chucked "Marvel 616" into a few mainstream characters on a whim, even if they didn't have counterparts in other realities.

For realities outside of 616, I've been using "Marvel Earth-XXX" (where "XXX" is the number designated to that universe).

    What do others think?

I've been using "Marvel 616" primarily.

I wouldn't know what universe # to put in if the character was from another one.

Yeah, "Marvel 616" or a nothing at all for the mainstream Marvel characters suits me just fine.

At some point I can run a job to change everything with "616" somewhere in the Universe field to "Marvel 616".

Frankly I don't mind too much how the universe is described, provided it's understandable. It's only there to make it easier for us humans to distinguish between characters.

I'm the one that puts 616 in the mix as "Marvel 616" is just six more letters that I have to type that mean nothing to me as I know what 616 means.  Though for the most part I don't put anything at all if it is a 616 character the only time I do is if I'm thinking that someone might download the character and not know what universe or timeline their from.

I know where you're coming from, Trev.

Like I said earlier, I really don't mind what format the universe is in provided it's human-readable. However, if enough people are bugged by it then I can run a script over the db to standardize certain entries.

    Re: Universe Inconsistencies

I don't have a problem with people putting in just Marvel for characters where we don't know what universe they are from.

Just not the team name. (ie Exiles)
