    Digital Comic Woes...

I have recently acquired (legally, mind you) some digital comics. I have a few Telltale ones in JPG format, and a few others in PDF format.

I make a folder for the publisher, and then create the new title, and then add an issue under that title. When I select the file using the browse button down in the "Filename: " textbox everything goes ok. So I click OK on the Issue Properties dialog.

Here is my problem: Comicster automatically adds a "This is a digital comic. Read it here." deal, but when I click the link nothing happens. And when I look at the issue location that is shown in the status bar along with the Action to be performed, the address is incomplete. It seems to break off at the first space encountered in the location.

Thanks for letting me know if I am doing something wrong.

Wow - you're right. It seems to get cut off at the first space. No idea how that's happening ... I'll check it out for the next release. Thanks MJ!

No problem! I live to serve.

I feel like I've done my good deed for the day, I really hope no one else expects me to be helpful.

Oh, right. I forgot to ask.

I have a few digital comics in JPG format (one pagers, but that is the way the publisher does them) and noticed that the "Digital Comics" filter in the Browse dialog does not include image formats, or at least not JPG.

I was just wondering, what file types does "Digital Comics" encompass. When the cut off problem gets fixed, will it be functionally equivalent to just paste the address since I am unable to browse for it?

Does anyone else have any digital comics that are in an image format?

Ah, I just used cbz and pdf 'coz I figured they'd be the most common ones. I can add jpg to the types in the next build.

For now, just type an asterisk (*) in the filename text box and hit enter when browsing for a file. This works in any program and it stops the dialog from filtering files by type. Then you can pick any old file (jpg, mp3, whatever).

That would be great if you added JPG. You may also consider adding Microsoft's XPS.

D'oh! You see how reliant we become on applications? We forget things (*) that we knew years ago. Thanks for the tip!

Ok, 1.0.5.3 is up and fixes the embedded-space issue. I also added jpg to the file types but forgot to add xps, which is quite annoying since I'm a fan of that format.

On another note, the missing "good" condition is still not fixed. There's no way for me to fix it without bumping all the other conditions down one and thus changing your collection. I'll have to fix it, bump the version up to 1.0.6.x, and introduce some sort of file version I can check to ensure it's using the right condition list. Stay tuned.

    Re: Digital Comic Woes...

    That was quick.

Well, obviously no one is actually using the condition "Good", so I wonder if you could make a small script or something that we can download and execute that will run through the our personal database and "make room" for the new condition? Maybe you could then make the changes to the program so that it acts as if it has always actually had "good" as a possible condition, all the while the database has been modified to allow for it and any new database created would of course be proper.

Not sure if this is possible. Make code changes, write script to modify database, have user locate their database and run the script (suggesting a backup, of course) on it, and then install newest version of Comicster that has the good condition.

Anyway, maybe there is a way similar to this to make changes to the database seperately from the program itself, and that way the database will be ready to go with the new version?

Yeah, I'll do something along those lines, but in Comicster itself rather than with a separate download.

Awesome, I can't wait! (I have some "good" comics, from bargain bin hunting over the years!)
